The Montessori School of Pleasanton applies the educational philosophy and methods of Maria Montessori, M.D., a renowned Italian physician and child educator. For over a century, Dr. Montessori's teaching approach has been proven and refined in cultures as diverse as those of Italy and India, The Netherlands and Mexico, Ireland and Taiwan.
Authentic Montessori
When choosing the right school for your child it is important to understand that the term "Montessori" cannot be trademarked. "Montessori" is similar to "Chinese Food" or "Tae Kwon Do". Just because a school might have the word "Montessori" in the name does not mean they adhere to any principles or doctrines prescribed by Doctor Montessori. The same way a restaurant might say "Chinese" or a Martial arts studio might teach "Tae Kwon Do" it does not necessarily mean they are good or authentic.
Montessori Method
The foundation of Dr. Montessori's teaching method is based on the belief that the child is born into this world full of potential. The unique method she developed was designed to harness this natural potential and allow the child to take responsibility of his/her education.
The Montessori Prepared Environment
In creating the "prepared environment," Dr. Montessori wanted to optimize the conditions under which children teach themselves and learn independently. The goal is for children to become self-reliant, active learners.
Our History
September 1974: Montessori teachers Cynthia Leahy and Naseem Meer hold the first Montessori preschool class between San Jose and Berkeley in a rented classroom at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Fremont, CA.
